Dara Grace Torres is an American retired professional swimmer, author, and motivational speaker best known for her illustrious swimming career. She was born in Beverly Hills, California, United States, on April 15, 1967.
Torres began swimming competitively at the age of seven. Over the course of her illustrious career, she won a total of 12 Olympic medals, including four gold, four silver, and four bronze, making her one of the most successful female swimmers of all time.
Torres was also a former world record holder in three events - the 50-meter freestyle, the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, and the 4x100-meter medley relay. In addition, she became the first swimmer to represent the United States in five Olympic Games, spanning over 24 years from 1984 to 2008.
Following her retirement from competitive swimming in 2012, Torres has focused on inspiring and motivating others through her writing and speaking engagements. She is the author of the book, Age is Just a Number: Achieve Your Dreams at Any Stage in Your Life.
