Dark Star Orchestra Bio

Dark Star Orchestra is a band formed in 1997 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It is a tribute band to the rock group the Grateful Dead. Their genres of music include rock, psychedelic rock, and jam band. The band consists of Jeff Mattson (lead guitar/vocals), Lisa Mackey (vocals), Dino English (drums), Rob Koritz (drums), Skip Vangelas (bass), Rob Eaton (rhythm guitar/vocals), and Rob Barraco (keyboards).

The band recreates the original song-for-song set list for the new generation of Deadheads. Original members of the Grateful Dead, including rhythm guitarist/singer Bob Weir, drummer Bill Kreutzmann, and keyboardist Vince Welnick, have performed with them. Washington Post, St. Paul Pioneer Press, New Times Newspapers, and Rolling Stone have profiled them.

Dark Star Orchestra has toured for over two decades, performing more than 2600 shows. They will perform at the Jam in the Sand 2023 in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. The band has performed at Astra Kulturhaus, Britt Festival Pavilion, Blain Picnic Grounds, and Charleston Music Hall.
