Darlene Love was born Darlene Wright in Los Angeles, California on July 26, 1941. She became a popular name in pop music with the release of “He’s a Rebel” in 1962 which topped the American singles chart. The song credits for the track goes to The Crystals but Love serves as the lead singer.
Love also released He’s Sure the Boy I Love under The Crystals in 1962. The track once again charted, peaking at No. 11. Other singles by Love are “Wait ’til My Bobby Gets Home” where she sings with Edna Wright, her sister.
Aside from her singing career, Love appeared in four Lethal Weapon films as Tris Murtaugh. She also appears in the documentary, 20 Feet from Stardom. In 2013, she also published the book My Name Is Love with Rob Hoerburger.
