Dave Alvert Alvin (November 11, 1955) is an American singer, guitarist, songwriter and music producer. Originally from Downey, California, Alvin performed with rock bands such as the Blasters, With X and The Knitters and with the Flesh Eaters before moving on to a solo career. His first solo release titled ‘Romeo’s Escape’ was released through Columbia Records in 1987. He then moved to Hightone records in 1991 releasing his second solo album, ‘Blue Blvd’. Alvin then released ‘Museum of Heart’ in 1993, ‘King of California’ in 1994 and ‘Public Domain: Songs From The Wild Land’ in 2000. ‘Public Domain: Songs From The Wild Land’ won Alvin his first Grammy award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. In 2011, Alvin released another album titled ‘Eleven Eleven’ through Yep Roc Records, which was his last solo album. After a three year hiatus, Alvin came back with his brother, Phil Alvin, to record an album titled ‘Common Ground’ in 2014 and ‘Lost Time’ in 2015. Much later, Dave Alvin collaborated with Jimmie Dale Gilmore and released an album in 2018 titled ‘Downey to Lubbock’. Alvin has worked with the Gun Club, Chris Gaffney, Tom Russell among many others. Apart from his musical career, Alvin has published poetry works titled ‘Any Rough Times Are Now Behind You’ and ‘Nanan, Big Joe & the Fourth of July’.
