Dave East, born as David Brewster on June 3rd, 1988 in Harlem, New York is a former basketball player turned rapper that first broke onto the music scene in 2010. Initially playing basketball with current NBA stars Ty Lawson, Greivis Vasquez, and Kevin Durant, and receiving attention from NBA scouts, Dave decided his love for music was greater than his love for basketball and focused on creating a musical career.
In 2010 he released his first mixtape, Change of Plans, which gained minor critical acclaim. He then released a series of mixtapes to grow his body of music. After six mixtapes he caught the attention of his favorite rapper, Nas, in 2014. Nas then signed Dave East to his new label Mass Appeal Records. He then released his first mixtape under the label called Black Rose. The mixtape received critical acclaim upon its release. He then released his next mixtape, Hate Me Now, which featured appearances from Pusha T, Nas, Jadakiss, and Styles P.
In 2016 his single “Cut It” charted on the Billboard Twitter Real-Time chart at number 9. He then signed with Def Jam Records and in 2017 he released his first EP entitled Paranoia: A True Story which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard 200.
