The Dave Matthews Band is an American jazz and funk band that formed in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991. Lead vocalist and guitarist Dave Matthews put together the band along with saxophonist LeRoi Moore, bassist Stegan Lessard, keyboardist Peter Griesar, drummer Carter Beauford and violinist Boyd Tinsley. The band’s first performance was at the Earth Day Festival in 1991 and continued to play live gigs at Charlottesville club Trax. Dave Matthews Band released their first EP titled ‘Recently’ in 1994 which preceded their breakthrough album, ‘Under the Table and Dreaming’. Which became certified six times platinum. Their follow up album, ‘Crash’ came in 1995 and won a Grammy Award for the album’s single ‘So Much To Say’ for the Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group. From their first to their second album release, Dave Matthews Band has received 5 Grammy nominations. In 1997, the band released a double disc live album titled ‘Live at Red Rocks 8.15.95’ and debuted at number 3 on the U.S. Billboard charts. Followed by this was another album in 1998 titled ‘Before These Crowded Streets’ and ‘Everyday’ in 2001. From 2001 to 2004, Dave Matthews produced and toured his solo work and won a Grammy award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. The band came together in 2004 to tour globally and also joined Bruce Springsteen’s Vote for Change tour. In 2005, the album ‘Stand Up’ arrived before a series of live albums was released. In 2007, Dave Matthews Band returned to the studio when LeRoi Moore unfortunately passed and the band was unable to complete their planned record. Their most recent album, ‘Come Tomorrow’ was released in 2018 and debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200. The Dave Matthews Band is still active today and have celebrated 25 years in the music industry.
