David Castañeda (born October 24, 1989 in Los Angeles, California, USA) is a Mexican-American actor, model, and social media personality most renowned for portraying Diego Hargreeves in the 2019 Netflix series The Umbrella Academy.
Although born in Los Angeles, Castañeda was raised in Sinaloa, Mexico. He returned to the United States when he was 14 and attended William Workman High School in California, initially studying civil engineering in college and operating with the intention to take over the family business. However, he soon became interested in film direction and switched to majoring in film production and international business in 2007 at California State University, Fullerton.
Eventually, Castañeda moved into acting and started auditioning for roles. He studied part-time while pursuing an acting career, eventually graduating in 2015. He acted as Jorge Castillo in ‘Switched at Birth’ on Freeform, Nicholas in ‘Jane the Virgin’, and Hector in ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’.
