David F. Sandberg is a Swedish director, writer, and actor, born on January 21, 1981, in Jönköping, Sweden. He became widely known for his horror debut Lights Out, based on his alarming short horror film from 2013. David made his first short film För Barnen in 2006. With the help of his wife, actress Lotta Losten, he started filming horror films and won several awards. After Light Out, David directed Annabelle: Creation with Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto and Shazam! with Zachary Levi and Mark Strong. In 2022, he directed The Culling, written by Stephen Herman. At the beginning of his career, he was known as ponysmasher, which is also the name of his Instagram account. He is also known for his Ponysmasher YouTube channel, where he has a massive following.
