David LaChapelle is an American photographer, writer and director who was born on March 11th 1963 in Fairfield, Connecticut, United States. He was born and raised in Fairfield and he’s one of three children born to Philip and Helga LaChapelle.
David is famous for his incredibly surreal and subversive photography described as kitsch pop surrealism. He is also known as the Fellini of photography by some critics. He was mentored by Andy Warhol who also offered him his first photographer job for Interview Magazine. Since then he has worked with other famous magazines including Vogue, Photo, GQ, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone. As a writer he has published four books and they include Hotel LaChapelle, Artists and Prostitutes, Heaven to Hell and LaChapelle Land. He has also directed music videos for Moby and No Doubt.
