David Lee Roth Bio

David Lee Roth is an American hard rock vocalist known for his tenure as frontman of Van Halen. He was born in 1954 in Indiana, and by his late teen years, he was recruited by Eddie and Alex Van Halen to form their eponymous group, along with bassist Michael Anthony. After the band’s 1978 self-titled album debut and a string of superhit albums up until the mid-80s, Roth started a solo career with the 1985 EP “Crazy from the Heat” and promptly left Van Halen the following year. The artist then recruited guitarist Steve Vai, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer Gregg Bissonette for 1986’s “Eat 'Em and Smile”, his full-length solo debut. After three solo albums, including “Skyscraper” and “A Little Ain’t Enough”, in 1996 Roth reunited with Van Halen for an MTV Video Music Awards presentation, and also took time to issue the full-length “DLR Band” on his own. The vocalist then opted to record a Van Halen cover LP in 2003, and toured with Van Halen in 2007, eventually releasing the “A Different Kind of Truth” LP with the group in 2012.
