David Américo Ortiz Arias, known as David Ortiz and by his nickname Big Papi, is a Dominican-American retired professional baseball player who played as a designated hitter and first baseman. He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on November 18, 1975.
David began his professional baseball career in 1994, but before his Major League debut, he played for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Fort Myers Miracle, New Britain Rock Cats, and Salt Lake Buzz. He made his Major League debut in 1997 with the Minnesota Twins, and after five years, David signed with the Boston Red Sox. He went on to spend thirteen successful years with the Boston, and throughout his time with the Red Sox, David played alongside Dustin Pedroia, Shane Victorino, Jacoby Ellsbury, Clay Buchholz, and Mike Napoli.
