David Wenham is an award-winning Australian actor, producer, and director best known for his work in film and television. He was born in Marrickville, New South Wales, Australia, on September 21, 1965.
David began his acting career in 1987 when he appeared in the TV series A Country Practice, Sons and Daughters, and Poor Man's Orange, and he has since had recurring roles in the TV series Pieces of Her, The Letter for the King, Les Norton, Romper Stomper, Top of the Lake, Iron Fist, Killing Time, and Deadliest Warrior. David became a household name in 2002 when he joined the cast of the Lord of the Rings film franchise, which also featured Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Andy Serkis, and Karl Urban. His filmography also includes the hit singles 300, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Elvis, Van Helsing, and 300: Rise of an Empire.
David has won multiple awards for his acting, including an Astra Award for Most Outstanding Performance by an Actor – Male, an Australian Comedy Award for Outstanding Comic Performance in a Feature Film, an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Lead Actor in Television Drama, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
