Dead Kennedys is an American punk rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1978. The current member of the band are Ron “Skip” Greer on lead vocals, East Bay Ray on guitar, Klaus Flouride on backing vocals and bass guitar, and D.H. Peligro on backing vocals and drums. The band’s name sometimes caused controversy so they would sometimes play under pseudonyms like The Sharks, The Creamsicles, The Pink Twinkies, and The DK’s. They have been described as a hardcore punk band and are known for their harsh lyrics. Their lyrics usually had to do with political topics, popular culture, and the punk movement. The band had a large following in the United Kingdom. They released their debut album in 1980 titled Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. The album reached number 33 on the UK Albums chart and was certified gold in the UK. They have since released the albums Plastic Surgery Disasters, Frankenchrist, and Bedtime for Democracies. They have also released 2 live albums, 3 compilation albums, 4 video albums, and 1 EP. In 1986 the band disbanded for some time, but got back together in 2001.
