Debbie Allen is an actress born on 16th January 1950 in Houston, Texas, United States. She is a 20-time Emmy Award nominee (winning 5), 2-time nominee for Tony Awards, and winner of a Golden Globe Award. She is widely recognized for her role in the musical drama series “Frame” from 1982 to 1987. She later started working as a director and producer, directing 82 episodes of the sitcom series “A Different World” from 1988 to 1993.
She later played the leading role in the sitcom “In the House” from 1995 to 1996. In 2011, she appeared in the medical drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” as Dr. Catherine Avery. She was also the executive producer and director of the series. In general, she has directed over 50 television shows and films. In 2001, she started the Debbie Allen Dance Academy in LA, where she now teaches choreography.
