Deerhoof is an American indie music group from San Francisco. The band formed in 1994 by founder and drummer Greg Saunier and guitarist Rob Fisk. Along with Saunier, band members consist of singer and bassist Satomi Matsuzaki and guitarists Ed Rodriguez and John Dieterich. In 1996, Deer Hoof’s album arrived titled ‘The Man, the King and the Girl’. Their breakthrough album came in 2002 titled ‘Reveille’ after the departure of Fisk. ‘Reveille’ was added to both Pitchfork’s and New York Times’ list of “Best Albums of 2002”. Albums ‘Apple O’ from 2003 and ‘Milk Man’ from 2004 increased the band’s popularity in the U.S. and were voted Best Local Rock Band by San Francisco Weekly. Amongst many EP releases, by 2007 Deerhoof began to perform as trio with only Saunier, Matsuzaki and Dieterich. The trio eventually went on to tour with big rock names such as Radiohead, Beck and Flaming Lips. The trio released an album titled ‘Friend Opportunity’ in 2007 which was loved by many Deerhoof fans. By 2011, the trio released album ‘Vs. Evil’ along with a short EP titled ‘Breakup Song’. Early in 2016, Deerhoof released a collaboration with Chicago’s Ensemble Dal Niente and titled the album ‘Balter/Saunier’. Another 2016 album appeared titled ‘The Magic’ followed by ‘Mountain Moves’ in 2017 with a more synth pop-rock feel that showcases Deerhoof’s experimental and crystalized sound. The band celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2016 and have been active for a total of 26 years.
