Dennis Leary was born on August 18, 1957 in Worcester, Massachusetts. After several years working in the comedy workshop at Emerson College, it was on an unexpected trip to the United Kingdom that he began writing his first one man show called No Cure for Cancer (1992). As well as comedy, he also released a number of records around this time including Asshole (1993) that all display his cutting ironic sense of humor.
As his public profile continued to grow, he went on to star in movies as well earning critical acclaim in dark comedy The Ref (1994). Since then he has gone on to make appearances in a variety of films and television shows including Blow (2001), Ice Age (2002) and Rescue Me (2008), with the later earning him an Emmy nomination. As well as writing and producing, he also set up the Leary Firefighters Foundation after his cousin and friend were killed on duty in 1999.
