Dennis Bovell is a musician born on 22nd May 1953 in Saint Peter, Barbados, West Indies. In 1965, he relocated to South London, where he developed a keen interest in Jamaican culture, especially dub music. When he was at school, he was friends with famous keyboardist Nick Straker and music producer Tony Mansfield. They both worked with Bovell. In the 1970s, he formed Matumbi. He later landed a job at Dip Records as an engineer.
Dennis has also produced music for many artists, including Thompson Twins, I-Roy, Bananarama, Fela Kuti, Orange Juice, Madness, the Pop Group, and Alpha Blondy. He has also been involved in writing and producing material by popular reggae musician Bobby Kray. In 2012, he produced an album titled “Mek It Run”. He also plays a cameo role in the 2020 film “Lovers Rock”.
