The band was formed in Basildon, Essex consisting of members Vince Clark as the lead vocalist who was later replaced by Dave Gahan, Martin Gore on keyboard, guitar, vocals and songwriter and Andy Fletcher on the keyboard. The two along with Gahan are the remaining members of Depeche Mode while members Vince Clark, Peter Gordeno and Christian Eigner made their departure in earlier in the band’s career. Depeche Mode released their debut album in 1981 titled ‘Speak and Spell’ which oozed a British new wave sound. Later that year, the band went on to release a single titled ‘New Life’ which landed on the UK Single Charts at number 11. Clarke left the band in 1981 and released their first album without him titled ‘A Broken Frame’ in 1982. Their third album, ‘Construction Time Again’ was released in 1983 with their single ‘Everything Counts’ landing at number six in the UK. In 1984, Depeche Mode’s popular single, ‘People are People’ surfaced along with a new album titled ‘Some Great Reward’. The band went on to tour in support of ‘Some Great Reward’ and were globally recognised the U.S., Europe and Australia. The album ‘Black Celebration’ arrived in 1986 and yielded a sold out tour along with a gold certification for the album. Depeche Mode entered the 90s smoothly with their triple-platinum album, ‘Violator’. The band was at the height of their success but subsequentially, took a four year break from making music. Depeche Mode now a trio by 1997 released an album titled ‘Ultra’ and went on to play 64 shows in 18 different countries globally. As a follow up to ‘Ultra’, the band produced ‘Exciter’ in 2001 and ‘Sounds of the Universe’ which arrived much later in 2009. The energy and enthusiasm of Depeche’s Mode commitment to their music inducted them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
