Derrick Johnson was born in Waco, Texas on November 22, 1982. He went to the University of Texas in Austin. He played for the Texas Longhorns from 2001 to 2004. During his senior year, he was named as one of the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
He was the 15th overall pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. The team signed him to a five-year deal in the same year. He has been the leading tackler among the Kansas City Chiefs’ linebackers. In 2018, Johnson was released, and he became a free agent.
Johnson opted to sign with the Oakland Raiders in the same year, but he asked to be released from the contract just after six games.
