DeWanda Wise, born DeWanda Jackson, hails from Maryland and is an American actress, best known for playing Nola Darling in Spike Lee’s contemporary update of his film, She’s Gotta Have It. With training from Tisch School of the Arts, she held a Bachelor in Fine Arts.
The actress’s career began with guest roles in television shows such as Law & Order: CI, One Life to Live and The Good Wife. With film roles in the drama, Spinning into Butter and Steam, she is known for playing Charlotte in the drama, Knucklehead. After her role in Shots Fired, a drama television series in which she played Shameeka Campbell, alongside such actors as Helen Hunt and Richard Dreyfuss, she landed her breakthrough role in Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It.
