Die Toten Hosen (literally "Dead Trousers," figuratively "dead dull" in reference to erectile dysfunction) is a Düsseldorf-based German punk rock band.
Die Toten Hosen were created in 1982 at Düsseldorf's Ratinger Hof, a punk music hangout. Campino and Andreas von Holst, both from the local punk band ZK, were among the group's founding members, along with Andreas Meurer, Michael Breitkopf, Trini Trimpop, and Walter November.
They chose Die toten Hosen over Die Pariser, according to Andrea Berzen, a friend and former promoter. Die toten Hosen literally translates as "dead trousers," but it also connotes the German idiom "hier ist tote Hose" or "hier herrscht tote Hose," which means "there is nothing going on here," "it's boring here".
