Dominika Cibulkova Bio

Dominika Cibulkova is a Slovak tennis player born in Bratislava in 1989. She is known for her aggressive style of play, and for being the first Slovakian woman to reach the Grand Slam tournament’s finals. She started playing tennis at age 8, and in 2004 she first qualified for Slovakia’s ITF Women Circuit. The following year, the athlete started to earn significant victories, including the ITF’s singles title, and the WTA’s Portugal tournament. In 2007 she won the ITF tournament for a second time and became a semi-finalist in China’s Guangzhou International Open. In 2009 she became a French Open semi-finalist after defeating high-profile players like Maria Sharapova. In 2011 she won the WTA Kremlin Cup, and in 2012 she won the Mercury Insurance Open against Marion Bartoll. Two years later she won the Mexican Open and ranked in the WTA’s top ten for the first time in her career. In 2014 she became the cover for The Washington Post while she kept on with professional Tennis achievements. She retired in 2019 to open a Tennis Academy in Bratislava.
