Dominique Crenn is an executive chef and the owner of three-Michelin-starred restaurant Atelier Crenn in San Francisco, United States. She grew up with her parents in Versailles, France. Dominique’s mother was a cook with an "adventurous palate. With her, Dominique explored different tastes from Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese restaurants in Paris.
Before attending college, Dominique had traveled extensively through Europe to learn the endless styles of cooking within each culture. She moved to San Francisco in 1988 where she began to train formally as a chef. She remained in San Francisco for the next nine years. During this period, Dominique built an impressive resume, working under the tutelage of San Francisco luminaries, Jeremiah Tower and Mark Franz.
After her time in training, Dominique was hired as executive chef of the Yoyo Bistro at the Miyako Hotel. During her one-year stay, she obtained an impressive three-star review in the annual Access San Francisco book.
She was named a “chef to watch” in 2007 and Best Chef of the Year 2008 by John Mariani in Esquire Magazine. In 2016, her restaurant, Atelier Crenn, earned her the title of World’s Best Female Chef 2016 at the World’s 50 Best Restaurant awards. She is also the founder and driving force behind ‘A Moveable Feast.’
