Dream Wife Bio

Dream Wife is a garage-punk trio comprised of Rakel Mjöll (lead vocals), Alice Go (guitar, vocals), and Bella Podpadec (bass, vocals). The group came together while studying art in college at Brighton. They originally conceived the group as a “fake band” that would be an art project making a feminist statement and named the band after a 1953 film “Dream Wife” with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. They rounded out the ruse with a mockumentary reminiscent of “Spinal Tap.”

After playing live shows around Brighton and eventually touring Canada, they released their EP and first full album on the Cannibal Hymns label. They have since signed a new contract with Enfer Records. They cite the artists Debbie Harry (of the band Blondie), Grimes, and Kathleen Hanna as inspiration. The group blends Mjöll’s Icelandic roots with UK punk for three-chord pop with a world beat kick.
