Duff McKagan, born Michael Andrew McKagan on February 5th, 1964 in Seattle, Washington is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He was taught how to play bass by his brother Bruce and learned to play along with albums such as 1999 by Prince and Damaged by Black Flag.
At the age of 15 Duff began playing in a punk band called the Vains. They released the single “School Jerks” in 1980. In the same year he joined the punk rock band the Fastbacks. In 1982 he became a drummer for the punk band The Fartz. They released an album in 1990 called You, We See You Crawling.
In 1985 Duff replaced the bassist of Guns N’ Roses. In 1987 they released their debut album, Appetite for Destruction. The album has sold over 28 million copies to date. The year they released the album G N’ R Lies. In 1991 Guns N’ Roses embarked on a two year long tour. During the tour the band released two albums: Use Your Illusion 1 and Use Your Illusion 2. The albums debuted at number 2 and number 1 respectively. He released one more album as part of Guns N’ Roses called The Spaghetti Incident? As a solo artist he released two albums: Believe in Me (1993) and Beautiful Disease (1999).
