Edwyn Stephen Collins was born on August 23, 1959, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is an accomplished Singer-songwriter, musician and record label owner who is a specialist in guitar, vocals, drums and harmonica.
He lived his early life in Dundee and attended the College of Art and Design and Morgan Academy.
Collins and his friend Alan Horne established a band, Orange Juice, in the late 1970s. The two friends co-founded their record label, Postcard Records, to release their singles a year later. Released in February 1980, the debut single Falling and Laughing only sold few thousand copies. Later, the band was disbanded because the members were frustrated with its lack of success.
In 1985, he began his solo career, releasing two singles in 1987 through the Elevation record label. The two songs were also not successful, leading to Collins taking a lengthy break to re-strategize.
In 1994, Collins returned to active music production and built his record label in London. In 1995, he released A Girl Like you, a hit song in the United States and Europe and was used in the movie Empire Records.
