Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood, together with drummer Bev Bevan, created the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) in Birmingham in 1970. A combination of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements, and futuristic symbolism characterizes their music.
Lynne became the band's sole leader after Wood's departure in 1972, arranging and producing every album while also penning practically all of the band's original material. Lynne, Bevan, and keyboardist Richard Tandy were the only constant members of the band during their early years.
