Elina Svitolina Bio

Ukrainian professional tennis player, Elina Mykhailivna Svitolina was born on 12th September 1994 in Odesa, Ukraine. She took up tennis after watching her brother play and by 13, she found a sponsor, Yuriy Sapronov, because of her incredible gameplay. In 2010, she came into the limelight after winning the French Open girls' event. She made it to her first professional singles later that year. She also reached the final of the 2012 Wimbledon championship. In July 2013, she made her top-50 debut. Following her first WTA title in 2013, she went on to win five more by 2017  and reached the top 10 list in May 2017. This made her the first Ukrainian woman to achieve this. Among the titles during her career are the 2018 WTA Finals and three of the five Premier-5 level tournaments including the Italian Open, The Dubai Tennis Championship, and the Canadian Open. She also won two doubles titles in 2014. In the 2021 Summer Olympics, she won a bronze in the women’s singles category, becoming the first Ukrainian woman to win an Olympic medal for tennis.
