Elizabeth McGovern is an American actress known for her captivating performances on stage, television, and film. She was born in Evanston, Illinois, United States, on July 18, 1961.
Elizabeth started her acting career in the late 1970s with her debut in the off-Broadway production of The Rimers of Eldritch, but her breakthrough came in 1980 with her performance in the film Ordinary People, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Her other notable film credits include Ragtime, Once Upon a Time in America, and The Handmaid's Tale. Elizabeth has also had recurring roles in the TV series If Not For You, War of the Worlds, Three Moons Over Milford, The Brotherhood of Poland, New Hampshire, and Downton Abbey, which also features Hugh Bonneville, Phyllis Logan, Brendan Coyle, and Laura Carmichael.
