Em Beihold is an American singer and songwriter, born on January 21, 1999, in Glendale, California. She became interested in music as a child, learning to play the piano and listening to classical and jazz music. Some of her favorite artists were Queen, Norah Jones, and Kate Nash. Em's first project was to write a song for the film I'm Not Here, starring J.K. Simmons. The singer wrote Not Who We Were for the movie, and it was later included in her first EP titled Infrared. She started posting music on Tik Tok, and later also on Spotify, amassing millions of streams. She caught the attention of Mary Rahmani, the director of music content and artist partnerships at TikTok, which led to her signing a contract with Republic Records, with whom she released her most successful single, Numb Little Bug.
