Emily Sailers is an American singer and songwriter born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 22, 1963. She is best known for being a member of the musical duo Indigo Girls with Amy Ray. Sailers plays a number of instruments, including guitar, piano, banjo, bouzouki, ukulele, mandolin, and others. In 1985 she formed the music duo Indigo Girls with Amy Ray while they were attending college at Emory University. They released their debut studio album in 1987 titled Strange Fire and have since released the albums Indigo Girls, Nomads Indians Saints, Rites of Passage, Swamp Ophelia, Shaming of the Sun, Come on Now Social, Become You, All That We Let In, Despite Our Differences, Poseidon and the Bitter Bug, Holly Happy Days, Beauty Queen Sister, and One Lost Day. They have also released five compilation albums and three live albums. In 2014 Sailers started working on her first solo album Murmuration Nation and released it in 2017.
