Emma-Jean Thackray is an English musician, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, DJ, and producer born in Yorkshire, UK. Thackray plays the trumpet and the cornet. The trumpet is her main instrument since she studied the trumpet at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where her mentor was a British jazz musician and composer, Keith Tippett, and got her master's degree in orchestral jazz at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Thackray's first published music was an EP called Walrus (2016), and two years later, the talented jazz musician recorded her second EP called Ley Lines. In 2020, she released an EP called Um Yang. In 2020 Thackray created her own label, under the name Movementt, intended to record and release her original music. With her record label, Thackray published two more issues - Rain Dance EP (2020) and her first album called Yellow Album (2021). The album is inspired by multiple genres such as jazz, funk, soul, with choir singing and complex layered arrangements. In 2021, Thackray did a live show on Later… With Jools Holland which landed her a signing with the American publishing company Warner Chappell Music.
