Enigma is a German music project formed in Germany in 1990 by the musician and producer Michael Cretu. Before creating the group, Cretu released several solo albums and collaboration albums. He built an in-home recording studio at his home in Ibiza and started working on his new music project, Enigma. In 1990 they released their debut studio album titled MCMXC a.D. The album was their biggest success, reaching number 10 in ten countries and selling over four million copies. The single on the album “Sadness (Part I)” sold over 12 million units alone. They have since released the albums The Cross of Changes, Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Poi!, The Screen Behind the Mirror, Voyageur, A Posteriori, Seven Lives Many Faces, and The Fall of a Rebel Angel. The project has won five ECHO Awards, a World Music Award, and has had over 100 platinum awards worldwide. They have also been nominated for three Grammy Awards.
