Epica is a symphonic metal band which should come with the label “forget everything you knew about Scandinavian metal.” Their innovative use of a soaring female vocalist who isn’t growling will snap you wide awake, and their intellectual themes of philosophy, environmentalism, and spiritualism will be refreshing. Their line-up is Simone Simons (lead vocals), Mark Jansen (growls, guitars), Isaac Delahaye (guitars, backing vocals), Coen Janssen (keyboards, synthesizer, piano), Rob van der Loo (bass), and Ariën van Weesenbeek (drums, spoken vocals).
Epica has released seven studio albums as of this writing, and have enjoyed worldwide fame and acclaim. They’ve played festivals such as Hell & Heaven Festival, VOA – Heavy Rock Festival, Rockwave Festival, Hills Of Rock, Greenfield Festival, and Alcatraz, to name a few. They’ve also shared a stage with such legendary artists as Deep Purple, Scorpions, Judas Priest, and Ozzy Osbourne.
