Errol Spence Jr. was born in Long Island, New York on March 3, 1990. He is known for his nickname The Truth. In 2008, he bagged the International Amateur Boxing Association. He won the U.S. Amateur welterweight championships for three consecutive years – 2009 to 2011. He started his career in professional boxing in 2012. He went against Jonathan Garcia during his debut fight.
During the Olympic Trials, he won the welterweight title. He also competed in the 2012 Olympics held in London where he represented Team USA. However, he lost in the quarter-finals match.
In 2014, he took the IBF’s welterweight title from Kell Brook. Spence was also the first American to win a title against an English title on foreign soil since Tim Bradley who won the junior welterweight title in 2008.
