Ex:Re is the alternative pop side project of Elana Tonra, the front woman for the indie folk band Daughter. Elana Tonra is an English singer and songwriter born in London, England on January 15, 1990. She started her music career performing acoustic shows under her own name, but felt restricted by using her name. She co-formed the band Daughter in 2010 with Igor Haefeli. Daughter has released two studio albums, four EPs, and one soundtrack album. They release their music through the labels 4AD and Glassnote. In 2018 Elana announced that she would be releasing a solo album under the moniker Ex:Re. She released her self-titled debut album in November 30, 2018 through 4AD. The first single on the album is titled “Romance.” The album was engineered and produced by Fabian Prynn and Josephine Stephenson.
