Ezra Koenig is an American singer, songwriter, musician, radio host, and playwright born in New York City, New York on April 8, 1984. He is best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist for the indie rock band Vampire Weekend from their start in 2006 to the present. Koenig started writing music at 10 years old. His first song was titled “Bad Birthday Party.” After graduating from college he taught English at Junior High School 258 in Brooklyn, New York. In 2006 he formed the indie rock band Vampire Weekend with Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Baio, and Chris Tomson. In 2007 the band was signed with the label XL Recordings and released their debut studio album in 2008 self-titled Vampire Weekend. They have since released the albums Contra, Modern Vampires of the City, and Father of the Bride. The band has been nominated for several awards and has won a Grammy Award, an NME Award, and a Q Award. In 2015 Koenig created and started hosting the internet radio show Time Crisis that is still on today. That same year he wrote and produced the animated comedy-adventure series Neo Yokio that made its debut on Netflix in 2017.
