Fiona Apple is a singer, songwriter, and pianist from the Big Apple who happened to peak at the turn of the millennium. She is the daughter of performing artists herself, classically trained on piano and already composing her own songs from a young age. Her earliest singles from her first album “Tidal” charted in the late 1990s and sold the album platinum, but her bluesy hit single “Criminal” received tremendous airplay right around 1999/2000, thanks to the accompanying MTV video.
Fiona Apple has since sold albums into the 2000s, but never quite hit the charts the way her earlier hits did. She has a strong feminist undertone to her music, giving her a tight cult following. She toured with Nickel Creek in 2007 and appeared at SXSW in 2012. Apple has grown increasingly indulgent of her eccentricities, titling her latest album “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do” (2012). Epic Records label sucked it up and released it.
