Derek William Dick, better known by his stage name Fish, is a Scottish singer and songwriter, born on April 25, 1958, in Dalkeith, United Kingdom. He rose to fame a lead singer of the rock band Marillion in the 1980s. He began his solo career in 1988 and began exploring contemporary pop and traditional folk and rock. Fish released his debut solo album, Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors, on January 29, 1990. During his solo career, he has had five Top 40 singles and a Top 10 album. He has released several albums, including the album Still, on which he collaborated with Genesis founder Tony Banks. In 2001, he founded his own label, Chocolate Frog Records, and released the album Fellini Days.
He was voted at number 37 in the greatest voices in rock by Planet Rock listeners in 2009. Fish has also appeared in many roles on TV and on the big screen, including The Jacket, alongside Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley.
