Foxygen is an American indie and garage rock duo from Westlake Village, California. The duo formed in 2005 by long time friends Jonathon Rado and Sam France. Foxygen started their band when they were 14 years old and were influenced by psychedelic and experimental music. From 2007 – 2011, the duo self-release 4 Eps and were discovered by singer-songwriter Richard Swift and were later signed to record label Jagjaguwar Records. Their first album was released in 2012 titled ‘Take the Kids Off Broadway’. Their second album arrived in 2013 titled ‘We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic’ which cracked the Billboard 200 at number 76. In the same year, Pithcfork gave the album an 8.4/10 for Best New Music and Foxygen was listed on Fuse TV’s 30 Must See Artists at South by South West. The band gained reputation for their energetic live performances and stage antics. By 2014, Foxygen released their third double album, ‘…And Star Power’, followed by a 2016 album titled ‘Hang’ featuring an accompaniment by a symphony orchestra and collaboraitions with The Lemon Twigs and Steve Drozd from Flaming Lips. The duo returned to a more pop-rock sound in 2019 with their fifth album release, ‘Seeing Other People’ and announced that they will be taking an indefinite hiatus from touring.
