Frank Darabont is a French-born Hungarian-American film director, screenwriter, and producer born in Montbéliard, France on January 28, 1959. As a screenwriter he is best known for his horror films A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Fly II, and The Blob. As a director, he is known for his film adaptations of the Stephen King novellas, The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, and The Green Mile. When he was young, he became inspired to pursue a career in film after seeing the film THX 1139. After finishing high school he worked at Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California. He started his film career as a production assistant on the films The Seduction, Hell Night, and Trancers. The first film that he wrote and directed was an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story The Woman in the Room. In 1986 he sold his first screenplay titled Black Cat Run. Darabont has since been part of the films The Blob, The Fly II, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Majestic, The Salton Sea, The Mist and more. He has also been part of the television shows Tales from the Crypt, The Shining, Raines, The Shield, The Walking Dead, Mob City and others. Darabont has been nominated for two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, three Directors Guild of America Awards and more.
