Frederick Steven Roach, popularly called Freddie Roach, La Cucaracha, and The Choir Boy, was born on March 5, 1960, in Dedham, Massachusetts, USA. He is a boxing trainer and a former boxer. Also, he is an actor and producer known for Bleed for This (2016), On Freddie Roach (2012), and Pacquiao: The Movie (2006).
He is regarded as one of the greatest trainers in boxing history, having worked with Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, Tyson Fury, Amir Khan, Anderson Silva, and Miguel Cotto. Freddie scored 150 amateur bouts and won multiple Golden Gloves. He also won the New England featherweight championship. Freddie went pro in 1978 and retired at twenty-six, with a record of 39-13 and 15 knockouts. He went head-to-head with Hector Camacho, Greg Haugen, and Bobby Chacon.
He has been inducted into the New England Boxing Hall of Fame, the expanded category of the World Boxing Hall of Fame, California Boxing Hall of Fame (Non-Boxer), and the International Boxing Hall of Fame. In addition, he has won the Eddie Futch Award for trainer of the year by the Boxing Writers Association of America for seven times.
