Fu Manchu Rock band, originally named Virulence, was founded in 1985, in San Clemente, California, USA, by the guitarist, singer, and songwriter, Scott Hill.
Before the band came together, key members (lead guitarist and singer, Scott Hill; bassist, Mark Abshire; and drummer, Ruben Romano learned to play their instruments together with Ken Pucci as the lead vocalist. In 1985, the brand finally took form and became one of the popular classic stoner rock bands of the 1990s, Fu Manchu.
In 1989, the band, under the name Virulence, dropped an album titled, If This Isn't A Dream. When lead singer Pucci left the band, Glenn Chivens became the new lead vocalist and the band was renamed to Fu Manchu. The new face released a single titled 'Kept Between Trees' in 1990 after which the bassist, Mark Abshire left the band and was replaced by Grey McCaughey.
Many of the band's instrumentalists were replaced eventually but Scott Hill remained a part of the band. New members include Brad Davis, Bob Balch, and Scott Reeder. The band, Fu Manchu, has released 23 albums since 1985 and is associated with Nebula and The Freeks.
