Future Islands Bio

Originating in Greenville, North Carolina in 2006, Future Islands is a synthpop band composed of Gerrit Welmers (keyboards and programming), William Cashion (bass, acoustic and electric guitars), and Samuel T. Herring (lyrics and vocals). The three met while studying at East Carolina University and released their first EP, Little Advances, in April of 2006. On August 25, 2008, they released their debut album, Wave Like Home, through London-based label Upset the Rhythm.

In late 2007/early 2008, the band relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where they recorded their second album, In Evening Air, in the living room of their home in the historic Marble Hill neighborhood. In 2009, Future Islands signed with Chicago indie record label Thrill Jockey and released their third album, On the Water in 2011.
In early 2014, the band announced they had signed to London’s 4AD record label. On March 3, 2014, they made their network television debut when they appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman to perform “Seasons (Waiting On Your)”, the lead single from their upcoming album. On March 25, 2014, Future Islands released their fourth album, Singles.
