Kwon Ji-yong is a Korean rapper who was born on August 18, 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. He was a rap prodigy who was snapped up by YG Entertainment when he was 11. He later joined the label’s popular BigBang group. By November 2008 Remember had topped Korea’s Gaon chart and in Japan most of their releases were gold-certified.
Kwon’s solo debut album Heartbreaker was a major success topping the Gaon chart as well. He and TOP collaborated and released GD & TOP in December 2010. Later Kwon released a solo EP One of a Kind which went on to top the Billboard World Albums chart. By September 2012 That XX topped the charts and Crayon was also a decent hit.
In 2013 Kwon’s Coup d’Etat was released and it quickly rose to the top of the Gaon charts again! The set featured guest appearances from Diplo, Baauer, Missy Elliot, Boys Noize, Sky Ferreira, and Jennie Kim from BlackPink. Coup d’Etat also won World’s Best Album at the 2014 World Music Awards.
