Gareth Emery Bio

Music producer and DJ Gareth Emery was born Gareth Thomas Rhys Emery on July 18, 1980 in Southampton, England. He is known for his distinctive production style, which he refers to as “simples”, that includes a fusion of trance, house and progressive. Emery lived in Southampton until he was 26 when he relocated to Manchester, where he had a studio, and started a record label and night club, both called Garuda. He first became known in 2002 when his remix of The Shrink’s “Nervous Breakdown” was aired on BBC Radio 1. Later that year, he released the single “Mistral”, which is regarded as being his breakthrough hit. He released his first mix CD, The Five AM Sessions, in 2005 and followed that up with The Podcast Annual (2007), The Sound of Garuda (2009), and The Sound of Garuda: Chapter 2 (2011.) His debut album, Northern Lights, was released in 2010 and reached #1 on the US iTunes Dance Chart. The album contained one of his biggest hits “Sanctuary.”

In 2011, Gareth Emery released a remixed album entitled Northern Lights Re-Lit, which featured remixes by Hardwell, Giuseppe Ottaviani, John O’Callaghan and Ashley Walbridge among others. He has produced, remixed or collaborated on more than 90 tracks for artists including Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond and Britney Spears. Emery released his album Drive on April 1, 2014.
