Gareth Malone is a choirmaster, broadcaster, author, and TV presenter born in London, England, on November 9, 1975. He is an alumnus of the University of East Anglia and The Royal Academy of Music in London. He is best known for his role in The Choir and The Big Performance.
Gareth first appeared on screen in 2007 as the presenter of BBC Two's The Choir. He has presented over four The Choirs, including The Choir: Boys Don’t Sing, The Choir: Military Wives, The Choir: Sing while you work, The Choir: Gareth’s Best in Britain, and The Choir: Singing for Britain.
In 2012, Gareth was honored with the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to music. He also has won two BAFTAs, an RTS, and a Broadcast award. Gareth has published two books: Music for the People: A Journey through the Pleasures and Pitfalls of Classical Music and Choir: Tears, Triumphs, and Transformations. His albums include Voices: The Classical EP (2013), Voices (2013), A Great British Christmas (2016), Music for Healing (2019), and Gareth Malone's Great British Home Chorus (2020).
