Garou is the stage name of the French Canadian singer and actor Pierre Grarand. He was born in Sherbrooke, Canada on June 26, 1972. He is best known for playing the role of Quasimodo in the French and English casts of the musical Notre-Dame de Paris and for his hit singles “Seul”, “Belle”, “La Riviere de notre enfance”, and “Sous le vent.” Garou started playing the guitar at three years old. While serving in the military, he started the band the Untouchables in 1992. He was dicovered while singing in a Sherbrooke bar by Luc Plamodon and was cast in the musical Notre-Dame de Paris. In 2000 he released his debut studio album titled Seul and has since released the albums Reviens, Garou, Piece of My Soul, Gentleman cambrioleur, Version integrale, Rhythm and Blues, Au milieu de ma vie, and It’s Magic!. He has also released a live album and a compilation album. In 2010 he performed in the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Vancouver, British Columbia.
