Gautam Shantilal Adani is a businessman and industrialist born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, on June 24, 1962. He is the founder and chairman of Adani Group, the largest port operator in India. The company is India's largest thermal coal producer and largest coal trader. He controls Mundra Port in his home state of Gujarat.
Gautam acquired a 74% stake in Mumbai International Airport, India's second-busiest, in September 2020, becoming the country's biggest airport operator. In 2022, he acquired Swiss firm Holcim's Indian assets for $10.5 billion to become India's second-largest cement producer. He is investing in the renewable ecosystem, focusing on solar manufacturing, generation, and solar park businesses.
Gautam is number eleven on the 2022 Forbes Billionaires List. His company, Adani Group, has created partnerships with Wilmar Group, Total SA, and Elbit Systems. He oversees the Adani Foundation with initiatives across critical sectors of education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, and community infrastructure development. The initiatives reach more than 3.4 million people yearly in 2315 villages across 18 states in India.
