Virginia Elizabeth Davis, better known as Geena Davis, is an award-winning American actress, producer, writer, and former model best known for her work in film and television. She was born in Wareham, Massachusetts, United States, on January 21, 1956. Geena began her acting career in the early 1980s with appearances in the TV series Knight Rider, Buffalo Bill, and Fantasy Island. Geena has since had a successful career, starring in blockbuster films and hit television series. She has been a regular on the TV series The Exorcist, Commander in Chief, The Geena Davis Show, and GLOW, but she is best known for starring in the long-running drama series Grey's Anatomy alongside Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, Justin Chambers, Sandra Oh, and Patrick Dempsey. Her filmography includes the blockbusters Stuart Little, A League of Their Own, Beetlejuice, Stuart Little 2, Thelma & Louise, The Fly, and The Long Kiss Goodnight. She has won a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama, an Oscar Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Academy Awards, a 20/20 Award for Best Supporting Actress, and a Kering Women in Motion Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
